Teaching in an instant era…
(Image generated by AI)
Father (to a child while the food is being served) - Why are you fidgeting? Sit straight, stay
focused. You will get it soon.
Grandparent - We do not understand why this generation is always in a hurry? They just want
everything first.
Mother - They just want it instantly... Everything at a click, right there at the very moment. No
patience to wait at all.
Indeed this is an era of instant things. See how we have advanced.
Simple messages were sent through pigeons, then we had messengers deliver them, sooner came post office vans to ensure they reached faster, guess that too was slow, so up came the speed post promptly at our service. Then with electronic revolutions we got a message 'you have got an email.'
And finally here we are at the click of an Insta post.
All for the want of sending messages.
Isn't this journey incredible and true even for us.
Our day starts with instant coffee or a dip tea and extends all the way to transfer funds, pay bills
on a click and order at a blink.
The same energy then gets transferred to our gen next while we end up saying this generation
cannot wait at all.
Handling one child at home itself is a challenge for adults, then managing these photons of
energy in a classroom is a Herculean task for educators.
Teachers, do you find it challenging to impart knowledge when the attention span of children is
for a short while?
Well just thought of sharing a few tips. Use them to see if they are creating wonders for you.
- Go for mini brain breaks - put across a puzzle or a game to make students think.
- Know students trigger pointers or their areas of interest to grab their attention
- Too many instructions might just consume their time in confusion.
- Let your teaching style cator for all types of learners.
- Avoid prolonged tasks like too much teacher monologue, extensive writing work or extended listening activities.
Remember, less attention span of students means more patience for a teacher. This is not
instant but definitely achievable.
