The Rose Lesson

The Rose Lesson.....

- Prajakta Sachin Bhide

“Madam, you’ve given the rose too much sunlight,” my gardener said gently one pleasant Sunday afternoon.

Surprised, I replied, “But you were the one who told me to keep the plant in sunlight so it blooms well!”

He smiled and said, “Sunlight is necessary—it helps the plant grow strong. But sunlight alone is never enough. It also needs water, fresh air, shade, and good soil. Without these, the rose will struggle, weaken, and eventually stop growing.”

As he spoke, he moved the plant into the shade, loosened the soil, added nutrients, and watered it.

His words stayed with me.

Human growth works in much the same way. We often believe that criticism, harsh words, or constant correction will make people stronger. Honest feedback—like sunlight—does help people grow. But when it comes in excess, it can weaken rather than strengthen.

People need more than criticism to grow.

Like the rose, they also need encouragement, appreciation, understanding, and guidance. When honest feedback is balanced with care and empathy, people discover their true potential and bloom.

Educators, let us remember this rose lesson in our classrooms. Give sunlight, yes—but also offer soil, water, and fresh air.

Because when people are nurtured with warmth and appreciation, they don’t just survive.

They Bloom 🌹🌹🌹🌹
